    Keep Produce At Its Peak

    Keep Produce At Its Peak

When you shop the produce isle, you look for the freshest, best looking produce. To get the most nutrition from your purchase, follow these guidelines:

    * Select Fruits and Vegetables that look crisp or feel firm.

    * Smell the fruit. (Just don’t touch it with your nose.) If it does not have the identifying aroma it should with the fruit you have in your hand, it was probably picked too green. Put it back.

    * Don’t buy produce that is bruised or soft. The only exception I can think of for soft, is if you are making guacamole with the avacodos right away.

    * Don’t soak produce in water for any length of time. Just use a vegetable wash and then pat the vegetables and fruits dry.

Don’t cut Vitamin C rich fruits and vegetable up until ready to eat them. Examples – Strawberries, Oranges and Peppers. Exposure to the air destroys the Vitamin C.

Follow some of the suggestions above and you will be shopping and caring for produce like a pro. This preserves the nutrition you need for you and your family's health.
